1st Birthday

So this is 3 weeks late, but I'm finally getting around to posting about AnnaBeth's first birthday! Part of the reason is we ended up having to have 2 parties and one was just last weekend but my delay is mostly because I haven't made myself sit down and blog :)

At her one year appointment, she weighed 18lbs 13oz (15%) and was 28 ¾ inches (40%). Her doctor said she is way ahead of where she should be because of all the things she says: what’s this, what’s that, see it, thank you (none completely perfect of course but all understandable). She will also make a buzzing sound when you ask her what a bumblebee says. Sometimes she will “moo” and “woof”. Just this past week she started saying “want some” and also learned to sign “more” (which she will sometimes say) and “please.” AnnaBeth will sometimes try to say “wolf”, “panda”, and “cactus”. Just last night she started saying “bath”. Her 9th tooth, the 4th molar, also recently cut. She still is missing two top teeth and one bottom tooth of the ones that are supposed to come in before her 2nd year.

For her first birthday, we had a big day planned. First, we went to Black Bear Diner for breakfast. Then we went to the Scottsdale Civic Plaza Mall to take some outdoor pictures (which came out WONDERFULLY). After that, we headed to the Phoenix Zoo. It was horribly over crowded since it was spring break for school kids but we did manage to hit the petting zoo and see the tortoises. AnnaBeth had no desire to pet the goats but hey, we tried. While looking at the turtles she kept saying "tuh-tuh" which is her way of saying "turtle". By then it was early afternoon so we came home for lunch and naps. That night we took her to Olive Garden for dinner. She practiced coloring and enjoyed the fettuccine alfredo. We asked our server if he could bring her a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it and have the staff sing to her but he said they aren't allowed to do scoops of ice cream anymore. I was bummed and really wanted them to sing to her so we ordered tiramisu and the kitchen cut a small piece off and put it on a plate with a candle in it just for her. Some of the staff then sang their version of "Happy Birthday" and she was mesmerized! After they sang, we asked AnnaBeth how big she was and when she threw her arms up over her head, all of the girls who helped sing thought she was the cutest thing on the planet :)

The next day we had party #1 at our house with my family. She enjoyed opening her presents and immediately tried to push all the buttons on the toys. Clothes however, were a different story. Those got tossed to the side without a second thought! I made a funfetti cake (per Daddy's request) for her with vanilla frosting and pink crystally sprinkle things on top. She LOVED it!! She did quite a bit of squishing of the frosting which we all found quite hilarious :)

Her 2nd party was last weekend with Kent's family, along with my friend Tammi and her boyfriend Rene. We had a total of 14 people in the house and lemme tell ya, our house was crammed! For this party, I made a turtle cake. Tammi came over the night before the party and helped me frost it....took around 3 hours or so. A lot of work just to have it destroyed by a one year old! For this cake, we stripped her down to her diaper and put her in the middle of the kitchen floor. By the time she was done, we had green hand and knee prints all over the tile and her face was so green that you couldn't see her lips anymore!

The first slideshow is from her actual birthday and the second one is of the parties. I've also got video of her trying both cakes.
